Shabbat Morning Services
Every Saturday 10 am-12:15 pm, followed by Kiddush light lunch
Typical Shabbat morning service – three times per month
What to expect:
- a relatively full Conservative-style service outline
- primarily Hebrew service with some English readings
- triennial Torah reading
- Haftarah
- D’var Torah
- Prayerbooks: Sim Shalom; Eit Ratzon (includes transliterated Hebrew)
“New Shabbat” morning service – offered monthly
What to expect:
- service outline of selected prayers
- emphasis on beautiful participatory singing of fewer prayers
- short Torah reading with group aliyot
- primarily Hebrew service with some English readings
- brief Torah discussion which continues over lunch
- Prayerbooks: Sim Shalom; Eit Ratzon (includes transliterated Hebrew)
Friday Night Services
Usually two Fridays per month at 6:30 pm
“Kavannah Shabbat” – offered monthly
What to expect:
- a special spiritual focus
- emphasis on creating and experiencing a mood together
- chanting or prolonged singing of fewer prayers
- short refreshing meditation
- poetry
- kavannot – motifs – woven through the service, relating to the Torah portion or time of year
- Prayerbooks: Sim Shalom; Eit Ratzon (includes transliterated Hebrew)
Sisterhood Shabbat – offered quarterly
What to expect:
- emphasis on participation in singing and readings
- primarily English with some Hebrew prayers
- informal seating in the lobby
- family-friendly
- potluck dinner to follow
- Prayerbook: hand-made collection of prayers, poems, and readings
- Traditional Erev Shabbat evening service – offered quarterly
Traditional Erev Shabbat evening service – offered quarterly
What to expect:
- a relatively full Conservative-style service outline
- brief D’var Torah
- Prayerbooks: Sim Shalom; Eit Ratzon (includes transliterated Hebrew)
Tisch – offered quarterly
What to expect:
- Tisch is Yiddish for “table”
- homestyle Shabbat dinner ritual experience
- learn the meaning and spirit of our Shabbat practices
- communal Shabbat blessings over candles, children, hand-washing, wine, and challah
- story-sharing
- challah, juice, wine, and appetizers are provided
- modified potluck – bring entrees
- communal singing short Shabbat “table songs”
Service Learning
We use the Siddur Sim Shalom prayerbook. and the Siddur Eit Ratzon prayerbook. Many of the prayers have been recorded as audio cds and mp3s that you can listen to online at Siddur Audio.com or purchase on Amazon.
